| Mulching |
Mulching is recommended in the Summer months as it helps retain moisture in the ground around the rose roots on those hot days. A mulch such as Mushroom Compost mixed with cow manure or pea hay is recommended. Using mulches such as jungle much, wood chips or Karrie peat should be avoided as they leach nitrogen from the soil, in turn affecting the rose's performance. Do not mulch in Winter as too much water retention will lead to the onset of fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and black spot.
